Zanzibar introduces new (paid) travel formality

Travelers of all nationalities arriving in Zanzibar from October 1st will be required to present proof of insurance to enter the country. This new formality, which must be purchased and paid for before departure on the Zanzibar authorities' dedicated website, is in addition to the requirement to have an e-visa or a Tanzanian visa. The measure only applies to entries into Zanzibar and does not apply to stays in mainland Tanzania.

The new mandatory Zanzibari insurance costs $44 for adults and $22 for minors. It covers medical expenses, accidents, repatriation, baggage delays, theft and loss, legal fees, and civil liability, with conditions and guarantees. The Zanzibar Autonomous Government specifies that "failure to comply with this mandatory requirement may result in denial of entry at immigration checkpoints."
